Report ONE DAY NATIONAL WEBINAR ON “CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION AFTER COVID-19” A National Webinar on “Challenges and Opportunities in Higher Education after COVID-19” was organized under the joint aegis of IQAC (Inter Quality Assurance Cell) and Alumni Association of Gandhi Memorial National College, Ambala Cantt, on 30th June 2020. The Webinar started at 11 AM. The head of the College Governing Body, Dr. Gurudev Singh gave his Presidential Address and motivated the audience who mostly were the Teachers, by saying that the time after lockdown is full of challenges in higher education and we all should face it with patience. The welcome address was completed by the College Principal Dr. Rajpal Singh who introduced the dignitaries present in the webinar. The convener of the event, Dr. Anju Jain, highlighted the objectives of the webinar. She said that the sudden closure of schools and colleges in the face of this lockdown during a pandemic like coronavirus is a huge challenge in itself, as well as that for educating students through online medium will in it call for a new dimension and that in a country like India where many people are living below the poverty line, it seems impossible at times to conduct online education. Mrs. Upindar Kaur as the organizing secretary conducted the webinar. Professor S.P. Singh Former Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was present as the Chief Guest, who said that the all-round development of the students can only be possible by coming to the College and getting education and this is not possible through any other means; Professor Kuldeep Singh Dhindsa, who is an internationally renowned eminent scientist and former college alumnus, was the Guest of Honor, said that educating students through digital learning and technological development becomes even more necessary during the epidemic like COVID-19 but it includes problems like training of teachers, modern infrastructure, disrupting power supply and internet connectivity which needs to be taken care seriously. Professor K.S. Chawla who is the Vice Chancellor, RIMT University, Mandi Gobindgarh, presented his participation as the keynote speaker. He emphasized that there is a big difference between being physically present and getting education at the present time and also there is a great challenge to provide online education as a teacher’s content expertise and even their physical presence is always ideal for students which they always follow. A vote of thanks was sent by Dr. Manjeet Kaur, a former alumnus of the college. The college governing body congratulated the organizers for organizing this webinar with utmost efficiency and called for its continuity in future also. As a technical assistant, Mr. Shyam Raheja fully demonstrated his involvement.
