Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce was established in 1972-73. Keeping in view the need of vocational education and training, two Job-Oriented vocational courses were introduced, first Foreign Trade added in 1995 and second Computer Application in 1996. In 2004 two more vocational courses were added viz. Tax Procedure & Practices and Principles & Practices of Insurance. During the session 2015-16, a new course of B.Com. (Hons) was also introduced.

The Department aims to fulfill the diverse need of students and society by offering them various market -oriented and vocational Programs. In addition, it develops students’ overall personality and instill in them social and national values. Various value added programs are also provided to students to make them Job- Relevant.

 The department has Six regular teachers , one of the faculty member is deputed as Deputy Director in DHE. Five faculty members are Ph.D, one Chartered Accountant and two pursuing Ph.D. The department conducts short term courses named Tally ERP, Business Ethics and Social Responsibility of Students.
Apart from the courses , various extra curriculum activities are organized in Department like Quiz competition, Essay Writing  , Declamation, PPT Presentation competition etc. to keep the students up to date with current trends and market practices. This helps them in their overall growth and development. The Departments also encourages the students to actively participate in the placement programs organized by the college for better future prospects of the students.

Our Department has modern infrastructure with equipment promoting smart learning. There is a Departmental Library which facilitates the students to access knowledgeable books of eminent authors. Besides this, training programs which enhance their practical skills in the concerned subjects.

To recapitulate, our department makes every possible effort for the overall growth of the students as well as for the overall development of our beloved organization.

  • State-level Logo-Making competition, on the topics: business logo, company logo, food logo & educational logo was organized from 24th- 31st January 2021.
  • State-level Poster-Making competition on the topic Tools of Online Teaching was organized from 2nd- 5th February, 2021.
  • Online state level poster making competition held on 09-02-2021 in collaboration with the dept of management
  • Online Short-term course on “E-Filing of Income Tax Return” was organized from 15th-19th February, 2021.
  • Inter-College Online Speech competition on the topics: Emerging Trends In E-Learning, Role of Digital Media and relevance of Online Education was organized from 15th – 25th May, 2021.
  • National Webinar on "Digital Technology in Present Scenario" held on 29-06-2021 in collaboration with the dept of management and economics

  • A Campaign on Social Awareness about the Problems of Women & In Particular regarding Gender Discrimination was organized on 13th Dec., 2018
  • Collaborated with Department of Management in organizing a state level Declamation and Essay Writing Competition on 18th Feb., 2019.
  •  A workshop on “Intellectual Property Right & Patent” was organized on 12th March 2019.

  • An Extension Lecture on “Computerized Accounting” was delivered by Mr. G. K. Rahi to first year students.
  • An Aptitude Test from Bulls Eye(Mind Tree), Ambala City was organized.
  • Five day Accounting Workshop was organized on Tally & ERP-9 by ICA, Ambala City on 18th, 19th, 20th, 22nd  and 25th Spt., 2017.
  • A Rangoli, Mehendi & Painting Competition was organized on 7th Oct., 2017.
  • A lecture on “Career after Graduation” by Bulls Eye was organized on 27th March 2018.
  • Soft Skill Class by Bulls Eye was conducted on 27th March 2018 for M.Com and BBA students.
  • Two day National Seminar on “Role of Intellectual Property Rights in Present Scenario” was organized on 30th and 31st March 2018.

  • An Extension Lecture on “Financial Education & Awareness Programme of SEBI was delivered by Mr. Vishwdeep Sharma (From SEBI) on 8th Oct., 2016.
  • Two Day Education Tour to Mathura, Vrindavan, Agra & Fatehpur Sikri was organized on 2nd Nov., 2016.
  •  Job Vigilance Awareness Program was organized.
  • Lohri Festival celebration was organized on 13th Jan., 2017.

  • Seminar on Financial Services and Banking Industry was conducted by IFBI on 20-21ts Spt., 2011.

  • A Seminar was organized by Beta-Soft Technologies, Chandigarh for the students of commerce on 17th Feb 2012.
